Cabinet drawing software used to add drawers

Cabinet drawing software makes it easy to add drawers

This post and included video show how to add a drawer to our box as many cabinet designs might require. Because it demonstrates the concepts, tools, and steps necessary, you can design any drawer you need.
Small box empty box cabinet with one drawer at the bottom
First we start by opening SketchList 3D and choose the box project.  And if you don’t have it just click the Quick Create New Project button [yellow] at the left of the screen.
Then we’ll move onto the 12 inch cube created in our first post.  [If you don’t have that go back to the post on making a box.]  Notice when we added the face frame we resized the assembly to fit both the frame and an overlay drawer.  So we used SketchList 3D’s batch move function  and created the 1 1/2 inches required for both the frame and the overlay door.
The video reviews using the red and blue dots to size and locate the framing parts in our 3D cabinet design.  And it shows which board icons to use for the drawer construction.

This video will step you through the process of adding all drawer parts using our cabinet software:

  • Starting with the drawer container
  • Adding a front board
  • Building the box with a front, bottom, back, and two sides.
  • Clearances are left on the sides for hardware as well as under the bottom board.

Of course with our cabinet drawing software you can create a front panel in five parts.  If that’s not necessary then a single board will do.  As you know there are a million ways – it seems – to make a drawer.  So SketchList 3D gives you the flexibility to design them the way you make them.
And once you make one drawer ‘your way’ you can save it to your library for use in future designs.  It can easily be resized to fit any cabinet design as needed.
